Exterior Details |
Finished in glossy Porsche India Red, this 928 S4 gets attention even after all these years. Freshly refinished 17” Porsche 996 Carrera twist wheels have recently been installed to update the look of this car. The paint is original except for the rear bumper cover and driver side rear quarter panel which were very professionally done... hard to tell unless you were told. The rest of the car shows no signs of accident damage or prior paint work although we suspect the front bumper may have been resprayed for rock chips as it looks too good for an 85k mile car. All VIN tags are also present on the vehicle body panels. There are two small dings on the passenger door but other than that the body looks great all around. This car doesn’t look at all like an 18 year old car. We’ve seen other Porsche 928’s and it is hard to come by a car that is in this nice of condition. |
Interior Details |
The black leather interior is one of the nicest we’ve seen on a Series 4 928. The dash pod has no cracks and the dash itself is free of cracks except for one tiny crack on the edge of a defroster vent. The seats are in great condition as well and the carpets look very good. A newer set of Porsche floor mats was installed as well. We’ve been conditioning the leather and vinyl with Lexol & Vinylex in order to keep it in top condition. The original Blaupunkt radio is still in the car and appears to be functioning properly although one speaker grill on the driver’s side was broken by a test driver... oops! The A/C system is R134a and works fine. Window and other interior switches work well with a few minor exceptions (outside mirrors and hatch release). |
Mechanical Details |
Clearly a well cared for car. The 316 HP 32V V8 starts without hesitation and runs beautifully... no smoke or other concerns when idling/driving. The timing belt service with water pump, cooling system flush, and all accessory belts were completed during the fall of 2005 and the car has less than 1000 miles since this major service! If you are familiar with 928's you know that this is a very expensive service. We also recently flushed and replaced the brake fluid and a freshly rebuilt torque tube from 928 International was just installed (another VERY expensive item that is prone to fail on these cars). The next owner can have some peace of mind when buying knowing that all of these major services have been done. This car needs very little that we know of and should be about as fine of a 928 find that you'll see. Yes, you can buy one for less but chances are that you'll end up sinking much more into the car to take care of the things we've already done to this one. As nice as this car is, it isn't perfect but it is not in need of anything major as far as we can tell. The car has been seen by two import mechanics and aside from the torque tube issue which is being tended to, it didn't set off any other red flags with the mechanics. This car runs very well and shifts smoothly with the Mercedes Benz built automatic transmission. Truly one of the most underrated grand touring cars available and a true 80's icon. |
Vehicle History |
This 928 S4 is a two owner car originally from New Jersey. It does not appear to have been driven in the winter. The undercarriage is free of rust. As mentioned above, this car was just given a complete timing belt service which is critical on these cars.
This car needs very little that we know of and should be about as fine of a 928 find that you'll see. Yes, you can buy one for less but chances are that you'll end up sinking much more into the car to take care of the things we've already done to this one. As nice as this car is, it isn't 100% perfect but it is not in need of anything major as far as we can tell. It is literally nice enough for your local Porsche car show.
This car needs a new enthusiast owner who understands what these cars are all about. The 928 S4 models were some of the fastest production cars built back in the late 80's and were often hailed as the best cars to drive from NY to LA at triple digit speeds. Own a true classic Porsche.
